The art of listening is critical because it allow others to feel not only heard, felt, understood, but most importantly loved. As a life coach, I feel the greatest gift to my clients is being able to see their loving essence while extending the deepest of compassion to not only support, but to inspire and help create their greatness—the one I know that is possible within all of us.
As a young girl, I would stare for hours off into nowhere-ville, wondering what’s out there? I had this longing and curiosity towards life, it’s meaning, and my part in it. And though I was curious, I never felt whole.
As a young adult, I endured a lot of pain and emotional suffering around my worth; it held me back from being my authentic self. I tried to think my way out through this deep sense of worthlessness, but it wasn’t enough. Thus, I began meditating and felt an alignment start to occur.
Then one fortuitous day, I found in meditation: my breath. It was my worth, as it is the worth of every human being. It is that simple. It became the single most important thing I found to align the mind, body, and soul in experiencing the miracle we are. I saw then that my successive failures, sufferings, and fears were there to shape me, though had I let it, it would have also destroyed me. Thankfully, I found a sense of complete trust through my breath as the very essence of life, humanity, and God. Our breath is key for our minds to experience the now, stay in our bodies, and connect us to our divinity.
I found my way back to wholeness learning to be intimately connected to breath and committed to the additional practices I laid out in The ABCs of Authentic Me. My purpose became clear that I was to serve others by doing the same–helping individuals return to themselves.
Steve Jobs said in his 2005 Stanford speech that “you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward.” And to this truth, I wouldn’t have it any other way, recognizing that each person must go through their own personal journey to become the person they were meant to be.
